Mercury Toxicity and Neurological Diseases

The biggest tragedy in medicine and dentistry is the use of mercury. Dental amalgams contain over 50% mercury and there are still vaccines that contain thimerosal. Over the last two decades Dr. Boyd Haley, PhD. has lectured throughout the world and testified before Congressional oversight committees and the Institute of Medicine regarding various aspects of mercury toxicity and neurological diseases. He has spent decades warning us about what the FDA and CDC do not want us to know about mercury contamination.  His research shows mercury dental amalgams are one of the chief causes. He also adds that the introduction of aluminum and thimerosal in vaccines, like those given at birth, and the flu shots given to the elderly annually, create a toxic synergistic effect that leads to neurological disorders that can include Alzheimer’s and Autism.

Silver Fillings a Source of Mercury Toxicity?

Dr. Karlfeldt:
Are small amounts such as that in a silver filling or what is found in vaccines enough to trigger dementia or other neurological conditions?

Dr. Haley:
“Yes, it is. And that’s the thing that amazes me, that you took the science and we went to the FDA, two times showed them some of the science and the concentrations and the amount released. The mistake is saying that the amount of mercury (vapor) coming off of dental amalgams is a small amount. It’s coming off at a steady rate. If you were a building, they’d shut your mouth down. I mean, the OSHA would shut you down. It comes off 24 hours a day, every day that you have in your mouth. And if you eat something hard, or if you drink hot drinks, it comes off even faster. It is not a small amount of mercury. Mercury is a retention toxicity. In other words, it’s not the amount of mercury you get, you don’t get it and get rid of all of it. I mean, in certain places like in your brain compartments it has a 27-year half-life. You got 27 years to get rid of half of it. And if it keeps coming in on a daily basis, you don’t ever get rid of all of it.”

Mercury vapor can penetrate any part of the body it wants. Mercury would rather be in fatty tissues, and that makes the brain a prime target. Plus, you can take it in through the axonal nerves… from the nasal cavity up into the brain. And if you breathe it, it gets into the body and it travels, basically penetrating every cell or any membrane.

How did the regulating agencies react to his findings?

“They didn’t like what I was saying based on these findings. Mercury is a major player in Alzheimer’s. I never said it was the only cause. I only said that if you are a person susceptible to getting Alzheimer’s disease if you expose yourself to mercury that’s going to be a major contributor to you crossing that thin red line into dementia.”

The FDA still stands behind mercury amalgam fillings and the CDC stands behind the use of thimerosal (mercury), which is still used in some childhood vaccines and the adult flu vaccine. Nothing demonstrates the terrible arrogance of these organizations than their approval of using neurotoxic mercury in medicine and dentistry.

The Problem with Chelation

Detoxification of mercury can be a complex process and is often controversial.  Dr. Haley explains that most detoxification program for Mercury can’t get the Mercury out of the cells or the brain where it is causing neurological symptoms.  Chelator used for the longest time, EDTA, DMSA are charged. They never get out of the blood and not a natural compound. They don’t get inside the cell where the toxic mercury is occurring. If you don’t cross the blood-brain barrier you can’t get to the mercury in the brain.  Professor Haley shares how he set out to find a safe and non-toxic heavy metal chelator that would cross the blood-brain barrier, get inside the cells, and bind the mercury. The compound was initially sold as an antioxidant (as OSR), is now called NBMI.

Our exposure to general chemical toxins in the environment is only getting worse, Our world has never been as toxic as it is today and it will be even more toxic next year and the year after that. Thus there is a need for detoxification protocols that increase daily elimination for healthy people as well as chelation protocols for adults and children who have been devastated with mercury and other chemical poisonings.

Dr. Boyd Haley Ph.D.

Boyd Haley, Ph.D., former Chairman of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Kentucky from 1996-2005, Professor Haley is now devoting additional time to research.

An NIH Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Physiology, Yale University Medical School from 1971 to 1974, Dr. Haley has, in the past 17 years, emphasized studies on the biochemistry of Alzheimer’s disease. His research in the biochemical aberrancies in Alzheimer’s disease also led to his identifying mercury toxicity as a major factor in this disease.

He was one of the first to propose that the organic-mercury preservative (Thimerosal) in infant vaccines was the most likely toxic agent involved in Gulf War Syndrome and autism-related disorders.

Dr. Haley has testified before numerous government agencies on the effects of mercury toxicity from dental amalgams and vaccines. His articles include “Reduced Levels of Mercury in First Baby Haircuts of Autistic Children,” which was published in the International Journal of Toxicology.
